About Me

Dear Readers,

My name is Maerissa Knapp and I created this website from a compilation of webpages developed during a Grad School class entitled "Learning With Computers in K-12 Classrooms." I am currently a preschool teacher, but during my Undergraduate degree I complete my student teaching in a 4th Grade classroom, that is why the majority of my resources are designed for Elementary students.  I complete my Undergraduate degree at a small private school in the middle of Missouri: Stephens College.  I Graduated in 2012 with two Bachelors Degrees, one in Early Childhood Education and the other in Elementary Education.

Throughout my college experiences at Stephens College I had many opportunities to experiment using technology in the classroom.  Stephens College has a private Elementary classroom on campus andduring your junior year at Stephens, all Education majors must complete what is called "The Cluster,"  an intensive teaching experience where each college student is given a group of multiage students for the Elementary program to teach to for 2 straight weeks.  The college students must create lesson plans for every content area based on a single subject of their choice, once completing the lesson plans, the teaching begins.  During my college experiences I became very interested in Film-Making as well, so during my Cluster project I decided to combine my two passions and teach about the art of Film-Making.

This amazing experience opened up a world of possibilities to me.  I truly began to understand how the incorporation of technology could benefit the educational world and that really anything could be used as an educational tool if it was used correctly.  After this I went on to student teach in 4th Grade during my senior year, and completed an Action-Research project experimenting with the use of technology in a public school setting.  During my student teaching I used digital film-making to help the students complete a social-studies research project, as well as investigated with the use of digital recorders and how their use could improve student's literacy performance.

All of these experiences lead up to me seeking a Masters in Educational Technology, and I have continued to incorporated technology into my current teaching experience.  Presently I am a preschool teacher at a private school in Fayetteville, Arkansas called First School.  During my time at First School I have created school blogs for each classroom, making them private where only the parents who have been invited via email are able to see the pictures.  My next project is a campaign to obtain iPads for each of the classrooms.  This is just a glimpse into my life, but I hope you can see the passion I have for teaching and educational technology!  My dream is to someday start my own school where the curriculum is driven by technology, similar to the philosophy of an eMints classroom.  I hope that helps everyone see a little bit about my experiences and my technology qualifications.
